No one I've ever met is neutral on Wal*Mart. Let me begin by saying that Sam Walton is one of my heroes. He was a humble genius who as a multigazillionaire still rode to work every day in his pickup truck and frequently took his dog with him.

I don't go to Wal*Mart. I like to buy American where I can and in Wal*Mart I can't. I'd rather go see my friend Dan Sorrentino at Newtown Hardware for my sundries than some guy I don't know that I have to walk the length of a football field to find. But I know a lot of people who visit Wal*Mart on a regular basis. FYI, Wal*Mart has an affiliate program through LinkShare that is okay. Wal*Mart also has a blog, called Wal*Mart Facts.

Since it is the largest retail outfit in the world, Wal*Mart has a pretty big target painted on its back. It's always taking a beating for its employment practices or lack of this or corporate that. Being a PR person for Wal*Mart must be pretty tough. According to the Strategic Public Relations Blog, Wal*Mart is trying to soften its public face. To this end it has hired the venerable public relations firm Edelman in Chicago.

According to the Modern Marketing blog, Edelman and Wal*Mart set up a program they call Action Alley. Action Alley was set up to practice what Modern Marketing calls Outside In marketing:

Traditional marketing has been built around the idea of creating a central set of messages and sending them out into the marketplace.

This can be thought of as an 'Inside-Out' approach, where the communications infrastructure required to manage brands and image (cameras, editing suites, media, design & creative personnel) is held inside large organisations and used to distribute information out.

However, as savvy consumers filter out unwanted advertising information using PVRs, adblockers, SPAM filters, RSS feeds, subscriptions and customer communities, the Inside-Out approach is becoming less and less effective.

Not surprisingly, some companies are looking around for new ideas. Open Source Marketing is one idea that people are turning to as they realise that the values behind the Open Source Movement can be applied to industries beyond technology.

The Open Source approach can be described as 'Outside-In'. It recognises that in a distributed environment a lot of information and content about a company or brand is being produced outside of the organisation by consumers and other stakeholders. And that companies need systems that allow them to react to this information.

It also recognises that frequently this information is more influential than the spiel produced by a company or brand. For example, someone looking to book a hotel will probably place greater value on a customer community such as virtualtourist.com than a hotel website.

Having lived a lot of my life around marketing weenies, I can tell you that outside-in marketing scares the living hell out of marketing people, because it means they've lost control of their brand and their message, and they're not just pulling levers and watching what happens.

Getting back to Wal*Mart, the marketing weenies there perceived that what was being said in the Blogosphere was nibbling away at their brand. They're probably right. The job of Action Alley is apparently to help -ahem- steer those out in the Blogosphere toward writing more positively about Wal*Mart.

According to the Motley Fool a guy named Brian Pickrell wrote a blog article suggesting that the State of Maryland telling Wal*Mart how much employee health insurance they have to provide might be a bad idea. Without reading the article I would probably agree with him. According to the Fool, his article sounded a lot like a press release created by Edelman.

So the rigamarole seems to be about Wal*Mart's conspiracy in feeding news stories to influential bloggers to try to influence what they write. Of course they do. So does everyone else, and to say otherwise is either naive or stupid. That is what public relations are all about.

While I was laughing at this whole thing something very, very cool struck me — all the hubbub is because a company that earns $30 million a day is trying to influence a bunch of bloggers, rightfully believing that they have a lot of influence on the brand, and wrongly believing that they have any influence over them.

We bloggers aren't stupid, you know. We may use your marketing tripe propoganda, but the marketing weenies have to understand that the only reason we use it is because we agree with it. And while the purists can squawk, I don't see any problem with that.

So all of us nobodys as a group can turn a ship the size of Wal*Mart.

Blogs Rule.

Private Label Articles - Get More Useful Content At Low Cost and Effort

Private label rights (PLR) are one of the hottest things in Internet marketing today. Everybody wants to know what they are and, more importantly, what benefits they can get out of them.

In essence, PLR is a kind of license you acquire for material, which allows you to change and edit existing material and call it your own. Without having to do a lot of work, you could be credited as the author of the material and not have to worry about any violations in copyright.

Not a lot of people know about the PLR articles, much less why they should pay attention to them. Give yourself the edge and find out why you should know all you can about PLR and how you can profit from them in the most efficient and effective way possible.

1. Saves time and effort.
You probably already know how much work and time it will take to write an article. On average, a single 700-word article will take about two hours to compose from scratch. If your intention is to create a website with over 50 pages, then you can see how daunting and time-consuming the task of simply writing content will be. PLR articles will save you this time and effort.

2. All credit goes to you.
You are under no obligation to credit the original author for PLR articles. As such, when you publish them on your website, no outbound links and advertisements will be there to distract your visitor / customer. All links will be focused on your brand and your affiliates.

3. Saves you money.
This point requires a different point from saving time and effort simply because of economics. Hiring writers to create content for your website averages about $15 per article. If your site were to hold even just 20 articles that you need to update regularly (say every two weeks), you'd see how the bill could add up.

But if you were to acquire PLR for a set of articles, you could save money because of the economics of scale. Articles are bought at bulk and as such it is possible to get your hands on 200 articles for only less than $30.

4. Editorial freedom.
You don't like how the article is written or the information it is presenting? PLR allows you to change the material right away without needing to ask permission from the writer.
This is also especially useful for optimizing your website for search engines since you can enrich the content with keyword phrases to improve your rankings in SERPs.

5. Create a brand for yourself.
Today, it's all about distinguishing yourself from the rest. PLR articles allow you to provide content that is both relevant and updated. By doing so you build a reputation with your target audience as an expert. And since people would much rather go with someone they trust, your chances of return visitors increases significantly.

6. Get professional results.
Many of the writers who offer articles with PLR are professionals and have access to the latest information regarding your field of interest. By acquiring the rights from them, you avail yourself of their professional results without having to retain their services regularly.

With one set of PLR articles and some creativity on your part, you can extend the life of the articles to the point where the content has more than paid for itself. So when sourcing out a supplier for PLR articles, ask for sample works to demonstrate the quality of articles you would be purchasing.

Now that you know why you should seriously consider getting PLR articles, here are some ways to get you started on profiting from them.

1. Compile a list or report.
You can consolidate a series of articles of a similar theme and package them as a report or listing of information. While you may think that anyone can do this, you'd be surprised how little of this is done.

Many people don't have the time to read or the willingness to read several articles at different times. Providing them a simplified version of the information they want will be a welcome offer for your visitors. You can either give away the report for free, sell it as your own product or use it as content on your website.

2. Use PLR content to create a series of small articles
This is especially useful when producing material for an email campaign. A series is by far, one of the more effective ways to create a following with your audience.

Give enough to allow them a feel for what you're offering and hint at giving more of the same if they will subscribe to your mailing list. In turn, your emails promote your website by inviting them to visit you on a more regular basis.

3. Produce ebooks.
It is very possible for you to take a set of PLR articles and come up with an ebook, for which you can credit yourself as the author.

Since you have created an entirely new product you could repackage this and sell this with your own resale rights. Just like you, there are people who are looking for material they can use for their own promotion needs so cater to this market as they are increasingly growing in number.

As you can see, using PLR articles are not only effective in providing truly useful content. They are also cost and labor-efficient, which means you can focus more of your time to more important matters, whether they are for business or otherwise.

Money is not only a need, but also a way to satisfy various desires like travel around the world and visit gambling states like Las Vegas. There are lots and lots of ways to earn money online, some ones better than others.  If you can not hire an expert, we will try to tell you in short the best way to do it legally and hence make your dreams something real.

Paid for reading emails is a safety way to earn money online. There are different sites on the web that pay for doing this. These sites will pay you from $ 0.01 US dollars to $ 0.5 US dollars per email. But you can not believe everything. There are some sites that offer $ 1 US dollars to $ 500 US dollars, but they are scams and will not pay you any cent.

Answering online surveys is other way of getting money fast and easy. You will have to fill out surveys that sometimes may be long. There exist survey sites where you have to earn points and then exchange them for cash money. Some survey sites pay $250 per survey, but the tricky thing is that they ask you to buy the survey first (absolutely not recommended).

Other way to earn money online is to sell things on Ebay. A lot of people do this, because is the easiest way to earn money online forgetting problems associated to if the site is believable or not. But how I said, a lot of people are doing it right now, so there are a lot of competitors playing the game.  Your challenge is to do something a little bit different.

Affiliate to different sites is other way to earn money online (affiliate programs). Some web sites need to be seen by thousand of people because they will earn for that concept in the future. This system of making money online will pay per click or per sale.

However, remember the golden rule: stay away from high payouts unless there are proofs that they pay, otherwise you will loose time and time is money.

In short, if you are not making money, you are loosing money.

Adsense Good or Bad?

Adsense Good or Bad?

Word Count:
458

Summary:
Is Google Adesense the right thing for your business?

Keywords:
business

Article Body:
I have often pondered this question?

Here are my own basic thoughts on the complex subject.

Most websites I visit have some kind of adsense system running; I would estimate that some of these are making good money from the Google system. Certainly sites with over 1000 visitors per day should receive a small amount of revenue.

Generally I believe the adsense system is a good one, however like most things these days the adsense system has been misused by individuals who fully understand how search engines work; unfortunately these people have already made their money. These people have used many tactics in the past to raise their sites page ranking, thus ensuring more visitors, more visitors means more revenue from the system. These sites are generally kept open for a few months and then closed down, with the next one instantly opened up. This practice has been going on for years. The sites are even sold daily on EBay; I would imagine they are just about to be banned.

What normally happens when a few people misuse a system is it leads to others suffering, and in this case it has happened. Google is sandboxing new sites for longer. Saying this company had to act, they have now introduced the 'Big Daddy' update. This update has affected sites that have large numbers of irrelevant links or millions of irrelevant web pages. Unfortunately it has also affected the ranking of genuine businesses; hopefully this is just a temporary blip. My own opinion is the internet should be a level playing field for everyone; however I somehow doubt it ever will be.

I believe there is a place for adsense on most sites as long as it is discrete, well set up and does not look out of place, (fonts, colours etc), The main thing to think about is what do you want from your visitors. Most sites offer a product to potential customers. This causes the dilemma of balancing potential revenue from adsense against losing a potential customer, what I mean by this is, a visitor may be interested in your site, however you could lose them instantly to Google. This is why in my opinion is if your site has a product you are selling, you should never employ adsense on your homepage.

In conclusion I like the system, it is easy to set up and user friendly. I hope Google manage to filter out the unethical element who in the end will only spoil things for everyone.

Covered Patios and Home Improvement as Investment Strategies

Covered Patios and Home Improvement as Investment Strategies

Word Count:
544

Summary:
In a down-market, home maintenance and improvement is an important investment strategy. Spend the time to find a good contractor to help you.

Keywords:
Pergolas, Replacement windows, Covered patios, Hardi Plank siding, Sunrooms, Exterior painting, Decks

Article Body:
If you are a homeowner, you know how important the real estate market has become to the financial well-being and security of you and your family. Your home may well be your biggest investment, and like any other investment, it needs to be managed and protected. Unfortunately, home repairs are often put off due to costs or the inability to find a good contractor. The same goes for home improvements. The addition of, say, a covered patio may be put off when it could add to the value and enjoyment of your home.

Don't fall into the trap of neglecting home repairs and home improvements just because the real estate market is down. If you are selling, prospective buyers will be extra-critical and choose homes that are well-maintained and cared for. And in downtimes, attractive extras like sunrooms, decks, or pergolas are even more important when buyers have a large selection of homes to pick from.

Repainting a home is a great way to improve its appearance and give it what real estate agents call "curb appeal." Exterior painting isn't difficult and many homeowners do it themselves, but it can be a big and messy job. A good contractor can make things a lot easier by suggesting the proper paint for your home, showing various combinations of colors and carefully selected accent colors, preparing the exterior, and then do the painting quickly and competently. Expert preparation includes power-washing and may include repairing wood, Masonite or Hardie plank siding and trim. This will guard against paint blistering, peeling or flaking later.

Windows are another area of the home that's often neglected. Most homes today have dual pane windows for extra insulation and sound proofing. Unfortunately, the seals on older dual pane windows are often leaky, resulting in condensation and residue between the panes. Leaking seals defeat the purpose of dual pane windows, and the glass becomes dull and ugly. Replacement windows quickly fix this problem. I held off doing mine because I feared it was a big, expensive construction job. Then I learned that windows can often be replaced without ripping out the frames, and found a good contractor who did the work. If you think of replacing windows, also inquire about shatterproof, tinted, tempered and colored glass.

If you have a covered patio or any other structure that attaches to your home, be sure to have a contractor check for dry rot, leaks, cracks and other damage. These things are usually easy to fix, but they can really add up to costly damage unless taken care of. Water leaks, especially, can lead to catastrophic damage. Cracks and holes may provide access for pests, so it's better to tend to that quickly.

Taking care of one's home is good business and a good investment. Whether it's creating additional curb appeal with shiny new paint or an inviting covered patio if you intend to sell your home, or simply keeping your property in good condition so that you won't incur needless repair costs later on, proactive home maintenance makes sense. Many homeowners shy away from those tasks due to costs and the challenge of finding a good, reliable contractor. Don't give up - they are out there and you'll be glad once you find a good one.

A Quick Guide to Children's Furniture for the Bedroom or Playroom

A Quick Guide to Children's Furniture for the Bedroom or Playroom

Word Count:
487

Summary:
Are you considering new children's furniture for your child's room?  Read this quick guide to children's furniture for some great tips...

Keywords:
kid's chairs, kid's loveseats, kid's recliners, kid's rocking chairs, kid's sofas, children's chairs

Article Body:
Whether you are looking for bedroom furniture or family room play furniture you will find many conventional and unusual choices.

Where to start

If you would like to look at the products, take your child to the local department stores and see if they have what you want. If you don't have time to shop or don't live conveniently close to stores, there are many online catalogs with endless choices and unique designs.

If you are decorating the child's room, decide what color paint you want and what theme you will use. You could let the child choose these so they will enjoy their own special room. Choose fabrics for your children's furniture that will take wear and tear, and wood that matches your other furniture. Functionality and durability are important in choosing the style you will buy. Buying good quality furniture is important if you want it to last for many years. If you have more than one child using it this is especially important.

Making Choices

Children will feel very grown up with their own seating such as kid's rocking chairs, kid's recliners, beanbags, and even small kid's size sofas! When choosing the children's chairs, pay attention to the craftsmanship and make sure they are sturdy. Also, make sure they don't tip over easily or have a high back that the child can tip over. Having their own chairs will give them a place to play video games or watch their favorite movie.

For more seating, you might want to add a child size table and chairs. This will give the children their own place to eat, color, make crafts or look at books. These come in formal wooden table and chairs or more casual styles such as picnic tables or brightly painted sets.

Durability and Safety

When buying children's bedroom furniture it is again important to look at the quality of the furniture. Make sure it is sturdy enough to withstand children playing and the normal "monkeys jumping on the bed." If you buy furniture that is plain and not overly ornate, you will be able to add pieces to it as your child grows. For instance, when they are little you might want to buy a toy box with it. Later, when they are older, you might want to add a computer desk and chair. Or, if you were not able to purchase all the pieces you want the first time, you would be able to add more as you desire.

It is also important when selecting children's furniture to notice any safety hazards. Some toy boxes have lids that are heavy and do not have a way to hold them up. Check these carefully because harmful accidents have occurred. If you see any other possible hazards look carefully before buying.

Keep these tips in mind when buying children's furniture and you'll find safe, enjoyable furniture that will endure years of child's play!

How To Keep Your Articles From Being Deleted From Article Directories

How To Keep Your Articles From Being Deleted From Article Directories

Word Count:
912

Summary:
Learn to write articles that will be welcomed by article directory owners, website owners, ezine publishers and visitors, and get a steady stream of traffic to your site in the process.

Keywords:
content,article,writing,directories,submit,create,write,ezine,website,publisher

Article Body:

Articles are a great way to get added exposure to your website and business, and also a great way to increase your status as an expert in your field.  Because of this fact, article writing and article submissions have skyrocketed.  It is still an effective form of advertising, but you must be careful not to do things that will waste your time and effort.  As an article directory manager, there are some things I see that cause me to delete articles that are submitted to the article directories I manage.  These are 80% of the reasons I delete articles, so if you manage to avoid these problems, you will probably have a very good chance of getting your articles accepted by many of the article directories.

Submit Articles That are Relevant To the Article Directory Subject

Most article directories are general in nature and have a subject in just about every area, but there are now more article directories popping up that have more narrowly focused and specific subjects.  These are called the niche article directories.  They are not as large as the general directories, but their subject matter is much more highly relevant to a specific niche.

Visitors like to focus on these niche directory sites because they don't have to wade through thousands of unrelated articles. Article directory managers like to manage these sites because they are much easier to manage.  niche directories don't grow as fast, but when it comes to having a site that is tightly focused, it's hard to beat for bringing value to the sites visitors.

Having said that, it still amazes me to see so many people placing obviously irrelevant articles in these directories.  As an article directory manager, these articles get deleted without a second thought.  Continuous offenders will get their accounts deleted.  It does no good to continue this practice and only promotes bad will.

Don't Submit Articles That Are Taken Unchanged From Reprint Rights Packages

The overabundance of private label articles rising out of nowhere, creates a lot of temptation to just take the article, add a new headline and post it willy-nilly to all of the article directories you can find.  This tactic is becoming less and less likely to work as article directory managers are now aware of the article redundancy.  No one wants to have a site with 10,000 articles only to find that there are really 3,000 unique articles.  When I find articles that are like this, I delete both articles from the directory.

Remember, most article directory owners are wanting to provide value to their visitors first and foremost (I did say 'most' as there are always exceptions).  Having someone slog through 10 articles where the only difference is the  synonyms used, isn't providing the reader much value.  Article directory managers who care about their visitors will usually delete these types of articles, and sometimes the accounts of the repeated offending article submitter.

Link to Decent Sites in Your Resource Box

A nice benefit to reading articles is that it allows the reader to go to another site to find more information if they are interested in the subject of the article.  Nothing is more disappointing than clicking the link on the resource box and going to a site that ends up advertising viagra or some other completely unrelated and questionable topic.

Look at it this way, if you don't feel comfortable sending your own mother to the site, then you can probably bet that someone who is reading about gardening tips or home repair isn't going to be too happy about ending up at a site like that either.  I have deleted some, what I thought were good articles, because they went to these sites, or they went to some really crappy software generated site that provided the reader absolutely no additional value.  Those article submissions unfortuantely were a wasted effort.

Think of it this way, as linking becomes more important, in the eyes of the search engines, do you think people are going to willingly want to link to sites that are sure to get banned, if they haven't been banned already?

Write Articles That Are a Useful Length

Articles that are too short (usually less than 350 words) are considered more like blog entries or extended ads.  Article directory owners like articles that provide value to their readers, because articles that are higher quality will be picked up by more website and ezine publishers who are looking for quality content.

Articles that provide value usually solve a problem, tell a reader where they can find information to solve a problem and why it is a good source to use, give the reader a fresh spin on a particular topic, or just educate the reader about how to do something.  Articles that are only a few paragraphs usually tend to be glorified ads to a product or service.  You will get much more mileage out of writing valuable content, with a link back to your site in the resource box, than by writing 3 or 4 paragraphs as to why someone should use your product or service.

Writing and submitting articles to article directories can be a very worthwhile marketing activity, however you can waste a lot of your valuable time if you use the techniques that will get your article deleted.  Just use common sense about what you write, how you write it and your submission process, and you can enjoy rewards that article publishing can bring you.

The answer to the question, 'Do I need to learn programming?' is:
It depends. It depends on what exactly you mean by programming.
You need to know a little bit of web programming like HTML and
Javascript so that you do not need to depend on someone else for
additions and editing your work (if you intend to build your own
website). Those two languages are some of the basics that
everyone should know.

If you're referring to software programming then the answer is:
No you do not need to learn programming. You do not need to learn
it to get ahead as it is usually the concept or the idea which
can make you money and not a programming tool or language.

Further, the world is getting more and more specialized. In order
stay in tune with it, you need to find your niche and build with
it. Nobody can be good at everything. It's about delegation.
Unless you plan to become a professional programmer, and getting
a formal education for it, leave development up to other
experienced developers.

Additionally, from a practical standpoint, it is dangerous for
everyone to try to do web programming. Some of the coding, for
example one of the variables the tell-a-friend script pulls from
the form is openly included in the message it sends out. The
problem with that is if someone who knows what they're doing,
with regard to programming gets a hold of it, they could easily
recode the tell-a-friend form into an open spam relay. It is a
script with a major hole just sitting there waiting to be
exploited. That's the risk you run when you don't understand the
ramifications of every line of code. If you do not have the time
or desire to learn serious coding, and some basic code security
techniques, you will only make life harder for other netizens and
in the end, for yourself.

So unless you plan to become a professional programmer and take
the time to study these things, there's really no need to learn
programming. Rather, hire someone who is a professional and let
them do the work for you.
and put out a bid for your project. You'll get programmers from
all over the world quoting on your project. Entrepreneurs use
them all the time and have wonderful results. Hiring someone is
not only far more effective, but it leverages your role as the
project manager and takes you out of the creator mindset.

Ways To Extend The Reach Of Your Site

Article Body:

Successful websites extend their reach far and wide! They build links, connections, partnerships, or use whatever means they can to extend the reach of their sites. By extending their reach, these websites create greater exposure, bringing in more targeted traffic, leads and sales.

You should do the same with your site. It will greatly increase the importance of your site - boosting name recognition and increasing your site's visibility.

Lets look at a real life comparison, ever build a large patio or outdoor deck onto your house and suddenly realize you have not only doubled the floor plan but you have also changed the very nature of the house itself. Or you build a gazebo or a guest house on your property... and suddenly you and your visitors have a different view or opinion of your property. In fact, you have expanded the reach of your property by building these extensions.

Think of your website in the same light - by building simple extensions you can change how your site is viewed and judged by others; resulting in many positive benefits. Little things that are so simple to do, yet it can have far reaching implications for your site. You can, in fact, extend the reach of your site to all corners of the globe.

Here are some of the best techniques for extending the reach of your site, some of these are very simple, some a little more complex:

Article Writing

Get one way targeted links placed all over the web by writing simple 'how to' articles on the topic or theme of your site. Extend the reach of your site by simply including your live links in the author's resource box at the end of your articles.   Simple and very easy to do - just try it!

Viral Desktop Applications

You can extend the reach of your site by placing links directly onto the desktops of your visitors by offering them simple desktop applications like wallpaper, software programs, or ecalendars, like the DATEwise desktop eCalendar (see below). These are great for building brand recognition.

Old Fashion Link Building

Finding related websites and asking for reciprocal links is still one of the best ways to extend your site. Takes a bit of hard work but it pays off big time. And don't forget about testimonials, simple little recommendations about a site or product, these can be great link building opportunities.

Bookmarks

Make sure you have a bookmark link on all your pages. You might also want to make a favicon - small logo that goes with your bookmarks. And subtly ask those who bookmark your site to place a shortcut on their desktops.

Ezine or Newsletter

You can reach and keep reaching your site's visitors by building your own opt-in list newsletter or ezine. Broaden the scope of your site by offering diverse information in these publications.

Viral eBooks and Reports

These can be simple 'how-to' ebooks on topics related to your site. Include links to your website and build name recognition as well as tageted traffic.

Forum Posting

Becoming a regular poster on all the online forums will give your site greater exposure and build site or brand recognition. More importantly, if you offer helpful and well informed information your site will acquire a resident expert - you!

Off-line Advertising

Placing your site's logo or URL in off-line places, billboards, t-shirts, caps, but try to resist the latest trend - putting URLs on body parts! Off-line exposure will greatly extend the reach of your site.

Burning CDs

Burning your best programs or information on CDs, DVDs or disks and distributing these around to all interested  parties will create more recognition. Great for reaching non-online computer users.

RSS Feeds and Blogs

This may prove to be the granddaddy of ways to extend your site. The original name for RSS stood for 'Rich Site Summary' - you make a summary of your website and syndicate it to all interested parties. Other webmasters will take your syndicated RSS feeds and place them on their sites. You create mini satellite sites of your content all over the web!

In addition, as your site expands and grows, other opportunities will present themselves... in traditional media such as TV, Radio and Print advertising. Starting an affiliate program for your site is another option you may want to consider. An affiliate program can greatly expand the reach of your site. So too, will starting mirror sites in different languages or countries.

As you can plainly see, there are countless ways to extend the reach of your site. However, just trying a few of these will boost your site's creditability and visibility, bringing in more targeted leads and traffic. So it's your move, don't just let your site sit there, start implementing some of what you're just read.

The whole world is waiting...

Sociologists have studied what has been termed "cocooning" very carefully since the explosion of the world wide web.  Cocooning is the process of social isolation where a society withdraws from physical interaction with each other.  This "hermit-like" behavior can lead to the decline of many cultural and social traditions.  Cocooning also affects the way we interact with other when do finally leave the house and meet face to face.

The availability and popularity of the internet has changed the way that humans communicate and interact.  We can spend hours in chat rooms pretending to be beautiful, successful and brilliant when in fact we are average looking, overweight and unemployed.  The person at the other end of the keyboard has no way of verifying our claims or disproving them.

Discussion over the internet removes an essential aspect of communication: body language.  Such things as posturing, fidgeting and eye contact all are unconscious transmitters of our true intentions.  We learn as small children not to make eye contact when telling a lie and to cross our arms to distance ourselves from unpleasant people or situations.  As of today, the computer screen has no way of converting these communication skills into data that can be observed as overtones in the written text of a conversation.

This cocooning may affect the communication skills of future generations.  While excelling at expressing themselves through the written word, our children may lack the skills to give a convincing speech in public of carry on a comfortable conversation while waiting in line at the grocery store.  Some youth even use text messaging to communicate when they are in the same room.

The prevalence of home based businesses may be in part due to this preference for cocooning and nonverbal communication.  It is perfectly acceptable to home school your children, run a business from your home, email your mother and fax your clients.  You can even order a pizza, shop for a birthday gift and have your groceries delivered: all without any verbal communication.

As in everything in life, a balance is needed.  If you email your mother today, call her tomorrow and visit her on the weekend.  If you work from home, make time to visit the park.  Join social groups rather that internet message forums.  Limit the amount of time that your children use the internet and cell phone for text messaging.  Encourage teens to take a speech or debate class along with that computer programming class when signing up for college courses.

Many great social traditions like wedding rituals and back yard barbeques may someday soon be in danger of extinction.  We all must do our part to keep the spark of social interraction alive for future generations.

No one can logically argue against the fact that content is king. Web sites that are nothing more than glorified link farms or ad spiels must work harder and invest more money to gain visitors—almost none of them return. To keep users returning, there must be a reason. Articles can serve two major roles in maintaining a successful website—content and promotion. Just minutes from now you could be on your way to building a more successful business. Article creation and submission is one of the greatest promotional tools ever.
CONTENT
Every web site that wants to succeed at competing for eyeballs must have solid content to offer. Otherwise, the visitor is off in mere seconds—never to return. Make the visitor glad they visited and you have potentially created a loyal user.
Think about some of the more popular web sites on the Internet. Why would you visit them? Why would you return? Let's look at a popular news site, FoxNews.com. I visit Fox News to read the latest news stories. I go back because I know there will be fresh articles waiting for me. I visit my favorite writing web site because I know there are great articles there and new ones appear often.
Do you see a theme? I am not going to a web site that is about other web sites or is a link farm—I am going to the source of what I desire. These sources not only receive my attention but have a good chance at selling me something. Over time, my trust in these web sites increases and I am more open to what they have to offer. It is important to offer quality content to hook the visitors in and update often to give them reasons to return. Your web site is an extension of you and your company. How visitors perceive your web site is how they will perceive you. This is why it is important that articles be well written. Anything less will compromise your perceived image.
PROMOTION
There is no easier way to establish links and incoming traffic to your web site than writing articles—or having someone write them for you. It could take months or longer for a web site owner to gain a significant amount of relevant links on other web sites. However, it can take days, with no effort, to accomplish the same feat with one well crafted article. The process is extremely simple.
1. Write the article or have it written for you.
2. Submit the article to article distribution services.
3. Start working on the next article or have a writer do it for you.
Once your article is out there it will work itself onto web sites across the Internet, which will end up generating incoming links for your web site. Moreover, this will increase your link popularity, which is very important for great search engine rankings. It would be wise to write articles that pertain in some way to your own web site. The odds of people, who are reading an article on engine rebuilding, being interested in your web site about quilting is rather slim. There are many article submission web sites and groups on the Internet. Some good article submission web sites are: ContentTycoon.com, articlefactory.com, ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com, and ideamarketers.com. Don't forget to use the article on your own web site.
The promotion world is waking up to this article creation technique and in time the competition will be fierce. The time to get started is right now. One well crafted article can easily be worth thousands of dollars in promotional efforts. Don't let not being able to write great articles keep you from getting ahead—visit PromotionalArticles.com to have articles written for you. You simply can not put a price on the possible results from article distribution. Just wait until you experience it for yourself.

Effectively Using Articles to Market

Effectively Using Articles to Market
Word Count:

Summary:
In the short history of Internet Marketing, using articles to sell has always been one of the best and easiest ways to market a business or website at little or no cost. This will hold true in the future just as it does now.

Article Body:
In the short history of Internet Marketing, using articles to sell has always been one of the best and easiest ways to market a business or website at little or no cost. This will hold true in the future just as it does now.
Article Marketing works with  a domino effect. One article is written, and it travels from your computer to several article banks, providing back links to your website. From there other website owners copy the article, with the authors information included, and publish it in their newsletters or on their websites. The article may even end up as part of a compilation for an informative ebook.
The important thing is that the article spreads far and wide-or becomes viral. This accomplishes many things. This provides you with back links to your site, as mentioned above, which helps with search engine optimization. Since your author's information, or resource box as it is called, is at the bottom of the article, your website gains increased traffice and greater public awareness.
Writing articles accomplishes a couple more things that are important in ecommerce today. First, writing and distributing articles helps to establish you as an expert in your chosen topicand secondly, it helps to build a 'relationship' with people who read your articles, gaining their trust.
Writing and distributing  at least one article per week to the various article banks is common with successful internet marketers. They may use articles that they wrote for their newsletters then offer them out for distribution.  If the business owners can not write well, or don't have the time to write their own articles, they typically hire some other writer to create the articles for them.
The articles that are distributed by successful people are informative and well written. These are not sales letters disguised as articles but instead are vehicles providing helpful information, with the author's information at the bottom, including a link to the website. This in turn gets readers to visit the marketer's websites.

Computer Backup- Forget About It!

Backup Software is for the birds! Computer Backup is too hard, too much trouble and a pain in the butt. Let's just forget about it.

Backup Software is touted as the savior of your computer's critical business and personal files.  They claim that all computer hard drives (where our files are stored) eventually will have a 100% failure rate.  They try to tell us that the failure of our hard drives is just a matter of WHEN, not IF.

Do your backups they shout!

Poppycock!

BACKUP SOFTWARE- LET'S GET REAL

You and I know the real story.  The real story is that new computers are so well made that they almost never fail, right?

Therefore, we don't need to worry about buying backup software and setting up a computer backup system, do we?  It would just be a waste time-- for sure!

After all we know that all the press about hard drive failures, natural disasters and terrorist attacks is just a conspiracy by the backup software companies to get us to buy their products.

Personally I never had a hard drive failure (that I recall).  If my computer stops working for whatever reason, that's life.

Therefore, I ignore these software backup companies that try to push their backup software products on the unsuspecting public even though they make data and file restorations easy.  I don't give them the time of day.

Therefore as you see, I don't need backup software, do you? Of course not.

BACKUP SOFTWARE- STARTING OVER WITHOUT IT IS EASY

In the unlikely event that I got a virus or a bunch of spyware on my computers I'll just bite the bullet and move on.  After all, if I lost all my data to a virus, then so what? Who needs backup software?

Heck, I'd just buy a new computer and begin again and I'd still wouldn't need backup software because it's just too much hassle.

If ALL my business data was lost due to a hard drive crash or virus corruption then I'd just start my business over.  No big deal.  It's not that hard, right?  Using backup software is just a pain.

BACKUP SOFTWARE FOOLISHNESS

So by now we're all agreed that using backup software for computer backup is just for the foolish, right? Right.

Who would want to use backup software that automatically and easily backs up EVERYTHING on your computer hard drive to a DVD Rewriteable disk or USB external hard drive?  That would mean you could easily recover from any computer disaster.  That makes too much sense and is far too logical.

They claim that backup software is a virtual computer insurance policy against fire, flood, theft, earthquake, hurricanes, tornados and terrorist attacks.

Balderdash!

Ridiculous.

Hey, the businesses who survived Hurricane Katrina didn't need backup software did they?  OK, OK I admit a lot of businesses without backup software and off site backup lost EVERYTHING and now they cannot recover their data and reconstitute their business. But that's life. Now these businesses and their employees can now move on to something new.  How exciting!

Look, life without backup software is just so much more interesting.

By the way, did I tell you how much I enjoy playing Russian Roulette?

Did I neglect to mention my brief stay (it was really was only a few days) at the mental hospital? Ahh, that's ancient history.  Let's get back to the present.

BACKUP SOFTWARE- THE PRESENT DAY

Want to hear something silly? My friend Ben down in New Orleans owned an insurance company.  It made a very good living for him and his family. He didn't believe in backup software either.  All his computers were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Ben just laughed and said, "No problem, this disaster gives me the chance to write the Great American Novel that I've always dreamed of writing".

What about his 10 employees and his thousands of customers he was asked? Ben said, "Heck, things always work out for the best don't they?"

What about the income from the business that supported his family he was asked? Ben said, "Oh, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) told me they would take care of us and not to worry."

See, Ben is all set and is none the worse for wear even though he didn't have backup software.

BACKUP SOFTWARE LESSONS

So boys and girls what have we learned about this backup software thing?

* If we don't have backup software, so what, it just makes life after a hard drive crash more interesting and fun.

* After a natural disaster that destroys your computers, FEMA will make it OK.

* All the hubbub about backup software is just a bunch of advertising hype to sell product.

* Just because you like to play Russian Roulette, you aren't really crazy.

FINALLY- BACKUP SOFTWARE FOLLYIES

I know another guy, Carl Jordan, who is crazier than I am. Carl and the rest of the loonies at Tweak All Consultants actually believe backup software can save your bacon.

In my own strange way I try to be fair and balanced. Therefore
if you disagree with me check out the About the Author Resource Box below for a link to Carl's opposing view.

Now, where's my medication? My meds really smooth me out. They also help me forget about rational things like computer backup and backup software.

As a webmaster, you want your website to generate money aside from the things you sell. Actually, you don't even need things to sell from your website in order to make some money out of it. All you need is a little thing called affiliate program in your website.

Affiliate programs are one of the most popular buzzwords you will hear in the Internet today. You will see that a lot of webmasters are all talking about making money in the Internet from affiliate programs. As a webmaster, you wouldn't want to be left out of the trend.

However, before you join affiliate programs, you first need to know how it works and what's it all about.

First of all, affiliate programs allow you to earn money from your website by simply promoting another product of an affiliate company. This means that you will earn a commission from every product sold that has been purchased by someone who visited your website. This is like referring someone who visited your website to the company you're affiliated with. If that someone purchased a product from that company, you will be given a commission.

It is a fact that because of this very simple way of making money, more and more webmasters today are joining affiliate programs. With this, your website will be making money by simply referring someone to visit and buy products of your affiliate company.

Affiliate programs are very good money making potentials. So, if you doubt that this kind of business will make you money, you should try it. You will see that it is a very good money making business. However, you also have to work hard in promoting your website.

Here are some tips that you can use when you as a webmaster would be considering joining an affiliate program:

The first thing you have to consider is the affiliate program itself. Surely, your website will have some sort of theme. It should be a theme that you are an expert of. It should contain articles, downloadable items that are in line with the niche of your website. Now, when choosing an affiliate program, you have to choose one that is also in contrast with your website. It should contain products and services similar to your website's topic. For example, if your website is about cars, you want an affiliate program that sells cars or at least sells car parts or sells services related to cars.

Now that you have established a website theme and chose an affiliate program matching the topic in your website, you now have to market your website and also your credibility. One way to do this is to make articles. By making articles with topics related to your website and posting them to article publishing websites, you will be advertising your website and also your credibility. Always remember that you should have enough knowledge about the particular topic in your website in order to attract targeted traffic.

If you don't have any idea about what you're talking about in your article, it will just ruin your credibility and don't expect anyone to visit your website and much more to visit your affiliate company's website to buy their products or services.

These are some of the things you should remember when you are considering to join an affiliate program. Remember this and your website will be making money in no time at all.

One of the most essential and first tools you should consider getting when beginning you Virtual Assistant business is a website.  Your website is your virtual 'home', and should be an important part of your marketing plan.  Your potential clients will want to know as much about you as they can find out before speaking to you in person.

While it's true a large amount of your client base will come from referrals, you can be sure they'll ask for a website address when considering margin contact.

As you design your site (or have someone design it for you), put yourself into the position of a potential client.  What would someone want to know about you, your business and your services?  Make sure you provide full contact information that's easy to find - you'd be amazed how many people build a great site but leave no way to be contacted.

Your website will need a few key components that potential clients will be on the lookout for:

Contact Info:
As mentioned previously this should be easy to find so when people want to hire your services, they can!

Services:
Virtual Assistants provide a wide range of services so when people come to your website they will want to know what services you can provide.  Have a clear, detailed list of what you are proficient at and explain the details if not obvious.

Rates:
This is a personal preference.  Many VAs post there rates wile many others do not.  Of course this may be a benefit for when someone is price shopping, but if you prefer to charge on a project-by-project basis (as I do) this may not work for you.

Portfolio:
If you do any web design or graphics work a portfolio is a must.  People want to see examples of your work before paying you to do something for them.  If you do things like sales letters and ghostwriting , having a portfolio of completed work is also a very good idea.

About You :
Your clients are not only buying your services, they are buying into a relationship with YOU.  Let them know who you are and why you can be trusted to hold a portion of their business in your hands.

Policies and Privacy:
With all the privacy and internet safety issue out there you want to assure your visitors that their information is safe with you and always will be.  Spell out your policies on collecting email addresses, collecting payments, work confidentiality, etc.

Testimonials:
Ok, so you've got up a great website with everything mentioned previously.  Does that mean your visitors will trust you? Probably not.  You see, they have no way of knowing what quality your work is or even if you're a real professional running an actual business.  Testimonials help to prove your credibility by showing that you have satisfied clients who are happy to sing your praises.

Now that you've learned some of the essential elements of a Virtual Assistant's website, go back and have a look at your website (if you have one) and see if you are missing anything.  If you don't have a website yet then print this article out and use it as a checklist while your site is being developed to make sure you have used every advantage to create a site that sells your services!

2. You are shooting for at least a 40% and ideally a 50% return on your advertising dollars. So if your selling a product that gives you a $20 commission, and a particular keyword takes 50 visitors to create a sale, than a 50% return would put your bid at no higher than $0.20 per click.

3. Fund your accounts with the lowest possible amount allowable. This will help you get started and get a feel for the system, without breaking the bank.

4. Never pay more than $50 on any particular ad without seeing a return on your investment. You need to either change the ad or start promoting a new product.

There are so many opportunities on the internet offering to set people up in their own home based internet business that it can be difficult to separate the real, legitimate opportunities from the ones that only want your money. Knowing what to look for hidden within the offers can mean the difference between finding a legitimate business to operate and ending up helping someone else make money while losing your own.

With most fraudulent offers for in internet business there are four red flags that need to be thoroughly investigated before signing up to work for the website. Understand that not all of the companies that make these claims are out to take your money, but these are four things that many less than honest companies have in common:

1. Large upfront investment
2. The chance to make big money with little work
3. Do not clearly state what you will be selling
4. Lack of available contact information

While it is not uncommon for business to want a fee to become a representative for their business, you have to consider the amount demanded from you before you can start selling their product or service. You should also have a clear picture of what you will get in return for your investment. It is common for the term training to be listed, but many times the training consists of links to other sites where you are expected to learn about the company's business model.

The training may also focus on how to recruit others into the business, offering to pay a "bounty" for bringing in new people. A company that focuses on bringing in more people instead of selling the product may be on the border of being illegal.

Anyone who has ever been involved in a business knows it takes work. One of the most common pitches is the promise of a big payday without having to work more than an hour or two a day…or even a week. There is no such thing as a free lunch and those who try to convince you otherwise and not being totally honest. That disclaimer about income may not a representative of the potential earnings, should beg the question about why even bother to list it.

If you have been reading an online based business opportunity for several minutes and have no idea about the product or service you are being asked to sell, it could be an indication of a scam. Many keep it a secret until you have spent your money and find out there is no way you can sell this to others with a clear conscious. Know what the product is, and how much it will cost, before considering the offer any further.

Look for contact information. If the only means of contacting the company is through an email address, it could be they don't plan to be around long enough to answer any questions or complaints. Money back guarantees are also only about as good as the contact information. Email addresses and post office boxes are not good contacts.
